There’s something powerful about pausing before rushing into the next year.
Before setting new goals.
Before making new promises.
Before telling yourself this will be the year everything magically clicks.
And that’s why I wanted to write this post before setting goals for the New Year.
Entry 1:26
As a working Mom and business owner, I’ve learned that yearly reflection for women entrepreneurs isn’t just helpful, it’s necessary.
2025 wasn’t about overnight success or viral moments. Heck, most years aren’t. It was about quiet growth, unseen effort, and continuing to build a business as a working Mom, even when it felt slow.
And by growth, I’m not talking about website traffic or Instagram likes.
I’m talking personal growth.
Being brave.
Trusting in myself.
Taking a leap.
Before I share my mompreneur goals for 2026, I want to honor what 2025 actually gave me and reflect on the things I did to help me see where I’ve been this year and where I want to go next year.
Because growth deserves to be recognized, especially the kind no one claps for.
By no means am I claiming to share anything new or reinvent the wheel. I’m simply sharing what has worked for me this year and what I’m carrying into the next.
In March of this year, I knew I was ready to start something of my own again.
I spent months planning, preparing, and laying the groundwork for the launch. I went in with open eyes knowing there’s no such thing as overnight success.
And still… when I finally hit publish, it was crickets.
I’ll be honest, some days that got to me.
But most days, I chose to silence the inner critic and keep going anyway.
You know the one. The voice that says:
Who’s going to read what you have to say anyway?
Who are you to give advice?
Nobody cares.
Your niche is too specific. You’ll never get the traffic you want.
On and on and on.
And to every single one of those doubts, I say—
Watch me.
2025 taught me that consistency doesn’t always look polished.
Some days, showing up meant:
And some days, showing up also meant not doing anything at all.
When you work in a creative field like blogging, creative blocks aren’t a maybe, they’re a definitely. And they show up often… usually right when you sit down to be productive.
So this year, I got intentional about getting out of my own head and coaxing the creative juices back to life. That meant more walks outside, less scrolling, and more being fully present with the people I love.
Turns out, creativity likes fresh air, quiet moments, and a little less pressure.
This season reminded me that building a business as a working Mom will never look linear and that’s okay.
Showing up imperfectly still counts. Consistency matters.
Being a mompreneur means building alongside real responsibilities, not instead of them. This year, I navigated the growth of a new venture while raising my daughter as a single Mom, working a 9-5 job, managing the complexities of divorce and co-parenting (IFYKYK), and moving our household, yet again, as we stepped into a new chapter with my boyfriend.
It wasn’t simple (by any stretch of the imangination). It wasn’t quiet (not by a long shot). But it was real life, and I built anyway.
In 2025, building looked like:
Some people will say the biggest thing they learned is that being a mompreneur doesn’t require sacrificing real life. It requires adapting to it. I already knew that.
The biggest things I learned in 2025 as a mompreneur, were simple.
Any action is better than no action. Each step reminded me that confidence is built through action, not waiting.
Starting even when it seems random will put you ahead of 92% of people who set goals but never achieve them…because they never started.
One of the biggest things I learned through divorce, was to trust my instincts (they are almost always right). This year, I stopped outsourcing my confidence.
Instead of waiting for validation, I
Why? Because I was tired of waiting. Tired of waiting for approval. Tired of waiting for validation. Tired of waiting for responses.
This shift played a huge role in my reflection and goal-setting process going into 2026. We need to trust ourselves more and make decisions that feel right for us, rather than waiting for approval from others.
That’s also why I struggle with the idea of social media. So much of society’s self-doubt comes from the way social media impacts our confidence. It tricks us into thinking that just because someone else did something one way, our way isn’t valid or enough. It is. Period.
This one is HUGE. And one of the most important lessons of 2025.
You know what they also call this?
Setting boundaries!
Boundaries are a business life skill.
I said NO to:
And what a breathe of fresh air it has been.
There are so many things that are uncomfortable with starting anew. This year, for me, that meant:
Putting myself out there (online and in person).
Starting a newsletter, attending networking events, reaching out to people (I didn’t personally know but who I admire and who inspire me) to feature them on my blog–even through rejection, starting conversations on LinkedIn, and creating an Instagram account for Boss Mama CEO.
Opening up in real and authentic ways.
I call it my Unapologetically Me Era. Sharing unfiltered stories and having real, raw conversations about my life in business and motherhood.
This is my year of minimalism. It’s not about doing more.
It’s about doing what matters.
In the past, I used to create goal categories. Within each category, I’d set up to 5 goals. Crazy, right?! What was I thinking. I clearly wasn’t. Half of them didn’t even make it past January. By the end of the year, I’d forgotten most of them even existed. Why? Because it was unrealistic for me to think I could set 15 goals and track them consistently for 12 months.
For 2026, I’m keeping it simple: two goals. That’s it. Simple. Realistic. Measurable. Attainable.
Even more important, these are things I can FOCUS on and COMMIT to—the 2 major things most people lose sight of when setting goals.
These goals sneak their way into every part of my life. Instead of giving each area its own neatly labeled goal, I’m sticking with just these two. At the end of 2026, I’ll look back and see all the unexpected places they showed up and how much I grew because of them.
Leveraging AI and standing firm in my conviction to do so. It’s the way of the future. Either we get on board, or we fall behind. Eventually, I’ll share more about how I use AI and how it’s benefited my life as a working Mom.
This includes choosing long-term strategies over short-term hustles to build momentum without sacrificing peace.
This year is about meaning over metrics. Depth over volume. Creating impact while protecting my peace. It’s about building something meaningful while staying aligned with my values.
I’m not tracking how many people I have an impact on, just that I’m making an impact. It’s that simple.
I’ve spent the past two years in a job that has felt undermining, underpaid, and demeaning. That experience has rippled into every area of my life, causing me to constantly question my decisions and the things I wanted to pursue.
No more.
2026 is about showing up with more authenticity and having unfiltered, real conversations. It’s about sharing my new venture out loud, without hesitation, and helping as many women as I can through my own lived experience.
No more waiting to feel “ready enough.”
One of my biggest goals is learning to trust that I’m already capable. And boy will that take a lot of work. It’s a constant work in progress. But through consistent action, a willingness to keep going, and regular therapy (ha!), I know it’s possible.
If you’re reflecting on the year and feel like you didn’t do “enough,” pause.
Write a letter to yourself about the moments that brought you joy, the challenges that tested you, the lessons you learned, and the things you’re grateful for. Seal it and plan to read it at the end of next year. You’ll be surprised at all the little ways you continue to grow, often without even noticing.
And let’s not forget: reflection shouldn’t only happen at the end of the year. It’s something we should practice regularly. Define what that means for you. For me, it means monthly check-ins, because we owe it to ourselves to celebrate wins, big and small, and keep tabs on our growth along the way.
Now, I’ve spent most of the day writing this post, so I’m going to sign off and spend the New Year disconnected from devices, fully present with my daughter and loved ones. I highly recommend you do the same.
Remember, if you:
You grew.
This reflection and goal setting season isn’t about pressure, it’s about recognizing progress.
You’re not behind.
You’re building.
And that matters.
Here’s to honoring what was built quietly in 2025 and stepping boldly into 2026. And to all the incredible Moms juggling a million things—keep shining bright, cheering each other on, and building the life you love!
Xoxo,
Ashley
