Raise your hand if you’ve ever thought, “I’ll rest when the business is booming… or when the laundry’s done… or when the kids go to college”. Yeah… me too. 🙋‍♀️

I got back from a little vacation at the end of last summer (well, technically, a “mompreneur escape mission” ) and let me tell you, it was life-changing. Not in a cliché, Instagram-filter kind of way, but in a real way that reminded me how easy it is to let burnout sneak up on us if we don’t intentionally hit pause.

Here’s the thing: as busy Moms running businesses (or trying to), we’re often running on adrenaline, coffee, and sheer willpower. We think we can power through the exhaustion, and maybe, just maybe, we’ll get everything done. But here’s the plot twist:

My recent escape wasn’t a luxury five-star resort with fancy cocktails or towel animals shaped like swans. Nope. It was a beautiful family vacation at a beachfront house in the Outer Banks. A few weeks of fresh air, vitamin D, and plenty of time to do… nothing.

My favorite moments were the early mornings with my daughter, chasing the sunrise. The quiet mornings, the peaceful sounds of nature, birds singing, waves crashing, and her little voice saying, ‘Oh Mommy, look! It’s coming!’ She loved watching the sunrise with me every morning. And each morning reminded me why this break was so important. Time is one thing we never get back, and I want my daughter to always know that I will take time for her… and for myself no matter how busy Mama may be.

At first, my brain was screaming, “I need to be working… Emails! Social media! Content!” But after about 24 hours, something magical happened. That constant hum of responsibility and mental juggling started to fade. I noticed my mind slowing down, and in that space, ideas started to bloom.

I found myself jotting down business ideas that I hadn’t thought about in months. Creative solutions to problems I’d been stuck on appeared almost effortlessly. Even small tasks that used to feel like climbing Mount Everest suddenly seemed manageable.

  1. Plan ahead: Even a short mini-vacation works wonders if you plan for it. Let clients or partners know you’ll be offline. Schedule posts or projects in advance. This makes the break guilt-free.
  2. Unplug strategically: I know, I know… the notifications are calling your name. But even half a day without constant pings can reset your mental energy.
  3. Swap “I should” for “I get to”: Instead of thinking, “I should be working,” remind yourself, “I get to recharge my brain so I can create better work.” Mindset shifts are surprisingly powerful.
  4. Do things that spark joy: Walks, reading, naps, journaling, paddleboarding. Whatever fills your cup. This isn’t a luxury; it’s an investment.
  5. Reflect and capture ideas: Keep a small notebook or phone handy. Ideas flow when you’re relaxed, don’t let them slip away.

Let me tell you something. Taking a break can be as simple as unplugging for just one day. Sundays are my unplugged day. I shut down my phone and computer and spend the day fully with my family. That day is so important for me, it recharges my energy. By Monday morning, I’m ready to dive back in.

I used to dread Mondays… now, I actually look forward to them!

Here’s what surprised me most after my vacation: I came back energized, inspired, and ready to tackle my business in a way that felt joyful, not exhausting. Taking a break didn’t mean stepping away from my business, it meant stepping into better work. It was like hitting the refresh button on my entire system. That reset let me hit the ground running before the end of the year and start 2026 full of energy and momentum.
