your why matters

The Real Reason Your “Why” Matters (Especially on Hard Days)

April 17, 2026

Entry 2:5

There’s a moment every mompreneur faces.

It’s usually not on the highlight reel or the polished Instagram post or the big milestone announcement. It’s the quiet, messy middle. The day when nothing goes as planned, your energy is gone, and you start asking yourself:

Why am I even doing this?

That question is exactly when your “WHY” matters.

And not in a fluffy, motivational-quote kind of way. In a real, grounded, this-is-what-keeps-you-moving-when-you-want-to-quit kind of way.

Your “why” is not just a cute phrase or inspirational idea. It’s the emotional engine behind everything you’re building.

It’s not just:

  • “I want to make money”
  • “I want flexibility”
  • “I want to work from home”

Those are valid, but they’re surface-level.

Your real “why” is layered. It might sound more like:

  • “I want to show my kids what’s possible.”
  • “I want freedom over my time.”
  • “I don’t want to feel stuck anymore.”
  • “I want to build something that’s mine.”
  • “I want financial freedom on my own terms.”

There’s a reason this matters: mompreneur motivation is unreliable.

Even on platforms like YouTube where people go to learn, grow, and stay inspired, creators succeed not because they feel motivated every day, but because they stay connected to purpose. In fact, YouTube is one of the largest platforms people use to learn and stay engaged with meaningful content, showing how powerful purpose-driven content really is.

Here’s a powerful reminder of what it looks like to step outside your comfort zone and actually live the life you’ve been imagining:

In this video, you see a Mom doing things she’s always dreamed of doing. Stepping outside her comfort zone, trying new experiences, and fully showing up in her life.

This is what mompreneur motivation looks like in real life.

It’s not about perfection or having it all figured out.
It’s about choosing to show up anyway.

As a Mom, that hits differently.

Because stepping outside your comfort zone doesn’t just impact you. It sets an example for your kids. It shows them courage. Growth. Possibility.

That’s your “why” in action.

She started writing while waiting in the carpool line. It was her way of balancing the two worlds that matter most to her.

It’s a powerful reminder that “doing it all” looks different for everyone, and that balance is personal, not one-size-fits-all.

Let’s be honest: the hard days are coming.

  • The launch that flops
  • The post that gets no engagement
  • The week where everything feels like too much
  • The moment you question if any of this is worth it

This is where mompreneur motivation gets tested and where most people quit.

Not because they aren’t capable. But because they’ve lost connection to their “why.”

  1. Motivation fades
Motivation is emotion-based. It comes and goes.
  2. Doubt gets louder
Without purpose, your brain fills the gap with fear and uncertainty.
  3. You start looking for easy exits
“Maybe this just isn’t for me.”
  4. You stop showing up consistently
And consistency, not talent, is what drives results.

  1. You still have hard days (nothing changes that)
  2. But your reason is bigger than your feelings
  3. You show up anyway—imperfect, but present
  4. And over time, that consistency compounds

That’s the difference.

This is why mompreneur motivation can’t depend on feelings. It has to be anchored in meaning.

I’d be lying if I said I don’t have days where I’m like, “What am I even doing?”

But then I think about the women I’m helping and the little girl watching me go after my dreams. And suddenly quitting is not an option. Because that would be teaching her the exact opposite of what I want her to see.

I want her to grow up knowing what drive and determination look like. That when we commit to something, we show up, we stick with it, and we give it everything we’ve got even on the messy, hard, “I’d rather hide under a blanket” kind of days.

That’s my “why.”

If you’re building a business as a Mom, your “why” isn’t just personal. It’s generational.

You’re not just:

  • Creating income
  • Building a brand
  • Learning new skills

You’re modeling:

  • Resilience
  • Courage
  • Ownership
  • Growth mindset

Your kids are watching how you handle challenges.

They’re watching what you do when things don’t go your way.

You’re showing was persistence looks like in real time.

That’s why mompreneur motivation is so powerful.

If you’re in a season where things feel heavy or unclear or just….off, here’s how to reset:

1. Go Back to the Beginning

Ask yourself:

  • Why did I start this in the first place?
  • What was I feeling or wanting at that time?

Write it down. Don’t overthink it.

2. Make It Specific

Vague “whys” don’t hold up under pressure. Get clear.

Instead of:

“I want freedom”

Try:

“I want to be able to pick my kids up from school without asking for permission.”

Specific = powerful.

3. Tie It to Emotion

Your brain remembers emotion more than logic.

Ask:

  • How will my life feel when I reach this?
  • How does it feel right now not having it?

That contrast creates clarity.

4. Keep It Visible

If your “why” lives in your head, you’ll forget it.

Put it somewhere you’ll see daily:

  • Phone wallpaper
  • Sticky note
  • Journal
  • Planner

Visible reminders strengthen mompreneur motivation daily.

5. Borrow Momentum From Moments Like This Video

When you see someone stepping outside their comfort zone, let it remind you:

You don’t need permission or perfection.
You just need to start.

Your “why” won’t magically make things easy. That’s important to be honest about.

You won’t always feel motivated. And you’re not supposed to.

What your “why” will do:

  • Keep you grounded when things feel chaotic
  • Help you push through resistance
  • Give meaning to the hard work

But you still have to show up.

Some days it will feel exciting.
Other days it will feel heavy.

Both are part of the process.

On the good days, your “why” feels exciting.

On the hard days, it becomes essential.

It’s the thing that reminds you:

  • Why you started
  • Who you’re doing this for
  • What’s possible if you keep going

So if you’re in a season where things feel hard, uncertain, or slow…

Come back to your “why.”

Because that’s what carries you forward long after motivation fades.

Here’s to all the incredible Moms juggling a million things—keep shining bright, cheering each other on, and building the life you love!

Xoxo,
Ashley
