Mompreneur Productivity Tips That Actually Work in Real Life — Not in Someone’s Perfect Instagram Morning Routine

Entry 1:19

If you’re reading this, you’re probably a Mom who wants to build something meaningful without giving up the small amount of sanity you still have. And if that’s you… welcome to the club. This is a safe space where the coffee is strong, the routines are flexible, and the productivity tips are made for real Moms — not mythical creatures who have 18-hour days and kids who nap on command (that would be the day!).

Today, I’m sharing exactly how I changed up my routine and lifestyle to make room for a business while still being the snack fetcher, the boo-boo kisser, the laundry folder, and the woman Googling “dinner ideas with chicken… again.”

These are real mompreneur productivity tips I’ve tried, tested, and survived.

Let’s go.

Coffee has been a part of my mornings for as long as I can remember. Back in high school, I’d grab whatever awful gas-station coffee I could find on my way to chapel every morning—ah, the good ol’ days! When I moved to Boston for college and started building my own routines, I upgraded to a French press with a dark Vermont coffee blend. Wowza! That cup of coffee had me feeling like I could conquer the world… or at least my 8 a.m. lecture.

The only thing that’s changed since then is the type of coffee I drink.

As I’ve gotten older (I can’t believe I’m old enough to say that!), I realized my coffee might have been just a little too strong. The jitters and the afternoon crash? Yeah, no thank you. That’s when I discovered mushroom coffee.

Now, I know what you’re thinking: “You’re out of your mind, Ashley!” But honestly? I’ll never go back. Since switching, my jitters are gone, my focus and control over my mind and body have improved, and my overall well-being feels better than ever. I was skeptical at first—years ago, I’d tried mushroom coffee that was… well, fowl—but this time I did my homework. Hours of research led me to the Atlas Coffee Club, and now I’m hooked. I drink their Superblend, add a pinch of cinnamon and my favorite creamer, and I’m off to the races.

If you want to give it a try, I’ve got a discount code for $10 off your first order.

Trust me, a good cup of coffee changes everything. Skip it, and my day feels off. It’s the foundation of every morning.

Here’s a truth no one says out loud:
Mom brains are already full before 9 AM.

We are carrying meals, appointments, school calendars, dentist reminders, sock inventories, grocery lists, art day, show-and-tell day, plus whatever mental load our business adds on top.

I was walking around with 462 open tabs in my head. Not cute.

So I offloaded everything into systems — because productivity isn’t about doing more; it’s about thinking less. I try to live by one thing my Mom always says: “you only have so much energy to exert every day, choose it wisely”.

My Digital Brain: ClickUp

ClickUp became my headquarters for everything:

  • Business tasks
  • Content planning
  • Ideas that hit me at 2:17 AM

ClickUp didn’t just make me more organized — it saved my actual sanity.

For me, one brain replacement just isn’t enough. I basically live out of my Apple Calendar. Anything racing around in my head goes straight into my calendar.

I have different calendars for different parts of my life—business, work, personal, family shared—you name it. The moment I think of something I need to do, I dump it into the right calendar, assign it a time block, and then… let it go. Magic!

This little trick has seriously increased my mental capacity and given me extra space to get through the day with way less overwhelm. I don’t touch those tasks until they show up on my calendar. And here’s the best part: if I don’t get to something on the day I assigned it? No biggie! I just move it to another day. You don’t have to do it just because it was scheduled. If it’s not urgent, shift it, adjust it, move it—your brain (and sanity) will thank you.

Other platforms I recommend:

  • Canva – Create beautiful graphics faster than a toddler can make a mess.
  • ChatGPT – My personal virtual assistant.

These platforms are my team — especially on days when it feels like I have no team at all.

If you’ve ever tried copying a billionaire’s 5 AM routine, you know:
It lasts exactly one day.

You cannot run your life like a 20-year-old single entrepreneur who wakes up in silence, drinks green juice, journals for 45 minutes, then meditates on a rooftop. Absolutely not.

So instead, I built a routine that fits real Mom life. And that is one of the most powerful mompreneur productivity tips I can share:
Your routine should match your season of life, not someone else’s.

Here’s what my typical day looks like:

☀️ Morning Routine

  • Wake up with my tiny human (because she’s always up at the a** crack of dawn)
  • Take care of the fur baby
  • Feed the tiny human
  • Drink my greens
  • Sip my Superblend from Atlas Coffee+
  • Quick inbox and text message check
  • Get my tiny human ready for school
  • School drop-off
  • Get back home and reset to start my work day

This morning flow isn’t perfect, but it’s consistent. And consistency beats perfection every time.

I also work full time, which means my business only gets attention in tiny pockets of time scattered throughout the 9-to-5 chaos. And let me tell you—those pockets are never the same two days in a row. Between surprise meetings and shifting schedules, I’ve had to get really creative with my time… like a productivity ninja, sneaking in work wherever I can!

🌙 Evening Routine

After the evening chaos — dinner, baths, meltdowns (sometimes mine), dishes — I carve out 20–30 minutes for “light business tasks.”

Inbox replies.
Planning for the next day.
Updating ClickUp.
Brain-dumping ideas before they evaporate.
Finishing blog posts.

This window keeps things moving without eating into family time which is sacred in our house.

If I had to pick one habit that changed everything, it wasn’t waking up early or using ClickUp or switching coffee.

It was learning how to set boundaries — and then actually enforcing them.

Here are the boundaries that changed my life and my business:

I’m not answering the phone while making dinner. Just not happening. And I’m definitely not scrolling at the dinner table. I’m very intentional about how often I’m on my phone in front of my daughter. Honestly, if I didn’t need one, I wouldn’t even have it. I truly despise it—it drains too much life out of us and completely disconnects us from real human connection.

That’s why I’ve started setting boundaries around it. I don’t want my daughter to ever grow up thinking my phone was more important than she is.

If it’s urgent, they’ll call. Spoiler: it’s never urgent.

And the most important one of all…

There is something so magical about unplugging on Sundays–shutting off the world, resetting for the week, and being 100% all in with your family. The amount of peace I get from these unplugged Sundays is indescribable and something only you can feel once you’ve done it yourself. I highly encourage everybody to try it!

These took practice, and maybe a therapist, but it’s worth it.

Boundaries allow you to run a business without letting the business run you.

Old me thought success came from working long hours.

New me knows the truth:
Mompreneurs succeed by using small pockets of time really, really well.

Five minutes while the kids put on shoes?
Plan out dinner.

Ten minutes in the school pickup line?
Jot down blog content.

Twenty minutes during a rare quiet moment?
Make Canva graphics.

Consistency in small doses is one of the most powerful mompreneur productivity tips out there.

You don’t need more time.
You need to honor the small pockets you already have.

This is where the mindset shift happened.

I let myself be:

  • A beginner
  • A learner
  • A Mom who sometimes works from her car
  • Someone who needs systems
  • Someone who occasionally cries into her coffee cup (balance, right?)

I no longer expect:

  • Perfect routines
  • Perfect productivity
  • Perfect content
  • Perfect weeks

I only expect myself to show up — imperfectly, honestly, and consistently.

And you know what?
That’s enough.
More than enough, actually.

It’s not about perfection. It’s about persistence.

If you take nothing else from this extremely honest behind-the-scenes tour of my routine, take this:

You can build a business without sacrificing motherhood.
You can create success without burning out.
And you can grow steadily by choosing what matters most each day.

Mompreneurship isn’t about doing everything.
It’s about doing the right things in the right pockets of time.

If I can rearrange my chaotic Mom life to build a business I love…
you can absolutely do it too.

I’m rooting for you — every tiny, messy, magical step of the way. 💛
